Lights, camera ... skincare?!

Yours truly on the red carpet at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.

This TIFF I'll be on the red carpet. Every. Single. Day. Nightmare? Not for me. I love it and I'm going into the Festival with the best skin I've had in years.

The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals in the world (second only to Cannes) and dealing with highly strung talent (actors, agents, managers, crazed fans, etc.) comes with the job when TIFF is your client.

When I'm on the red carpet, under bright lights with TV crews and photographers afoot, I want to look my best. And although I love makeup and adore fashion, i'm smart enough to know that great skin is the bottom floor of beauty - you can't ignore it. Your skin is your canvas and you have to prep it as such.

FIND YOUR DREAM TEAM

In June, I met with Dr. Marc DuPéré at Visage Medical Clinic to talk about how to get my skin "red carpet ready" for TIFF. Dr. DuPéré sat down with me for a personal consult to discuss my goals and we hatched a plan to whip my skin into shape in time for September. Three months might sound like serious lead time but given the rest your skin needs between treatments - and summer travel plans getting in the way - it was necessary.

My goal was simple: I wanted to look great without makeup. Because here's the thing about TIFF, you can plan all you want, hydrate and kill yourself at the gym weeks out but you are still going feel like you've been run over by a freight train by day three.

So, we decided my skin needed to look incredible without any help in the event makeup applications weren't an option during my complicated schedule of film premieres (a "plan for the worst" approach, which i appreciated.)

MY SKIN ITINERARY

I suffer from rosacea on my cheeks, enlarged pores on my chin, sun damage, and minimal scarring on my face and neck. On the daily I use the best concealer products you can buy to assist in righting my skin to a neutral state before i zhoosh it up. It can be an exhausting process and it wasn't until the Skin Analysis appointment with Gabriela Madrid (who did all of my procedures, has the softest touch and the voice of an angel - check out my Instagram stories if you don't believe me) that i realised my skin really wasn't in the best shape. It's amazing how you get so used to covering up your flaws that you forget they're there and how much they actually bother you. When you don't have to cover up your skin damage, not only do you gain time but also confidence. So i was ALL in. Here's the skin schedule we decided on (squeal):

Skin Analysis $0

A one-on-one appointment to assess your skin and find a treatment plan personal to you with the use of some pretty interesting gadgets!

Beaute Radieuse aux Algues Polaires Facial $300

Using the highly coveted Biologique Recherche line, this facial is cooling and tightening. Cryo sticks are applied to the skin to reduce puffiness and contour the face.

BBL (broadband light laser therapy) Face Treatment $500

Also known as Intense Pulsed Light therapy or the photo facial, this treatment firms the skin and provides more even tone and texture. With little recovery time (like, none) the BBL offers a quick and breezy option for sun damage and anti-aging.

Halo $2,500

Halo laser treatment uses hybrid technology of a non-ablative laser, combined with an ablative laser to create controlled zones of coagulation to chosen depths into the dermis that stimulate new collagen, and fractionally vaporize (ablate) micro laser channels into the epidermis; addressing tone and texture of the skin.

PRP (Vampire Lift) $595

Made famous by Kim Kardashian, the Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is teeming with platelets and growth factor proteins. The “Vampire Lift” procedure uses material derived from your own body to heal and rejuvenate your skin.

Post-Halo Facial $95

This Procedure is 10 days after the Halo laser treatment and is designed to calm the skin. There’s very mild Exfoliation and a mask is applied.

So far, I'm very happy with my results from Visage Medical Clinic but my skin is still in recovery mode from my Halo + PRP treatments from last week. I'll be back in a week or so with images of the final result. For now, head over to my Instagram you'll find all the details on the above procedures (before/after, videos, etc.) I made sure to go in-depth on the treatment coverage so - if you're on the fence about trying any of the above - my stories will 100% help you decide.

See you on the red carpet!
